John Edward Boyles Jr., age 54, passed away at his home November 3, 2021. He was surrounded by his family.

In September of 2020, John was diagnosed with a glioblastoma grade four brain tumor. From that moment, his focus each day was to be positive and productive.

John has been well known in the Bakersfield area for his love and skill in the game of golf. His love of sports, however, can be traced to his high school years. John moved from Long Beach, California to Bakersfield just before his freshman year of high school. Baseball was his first athletic interest during his first three years as a Viking at West High School. During the summer between John's junior and senior years, he decided to take up golf. In his senior year, he made the golf team and played until he graduated in June of 1984. After high school, John went to Taft College where he played on the golf team. He graduated with an Associate of Arts Degree.

After college, John went to work at Stockdale Country Club as an Assistant Golf Pro. John met his wife, Susan, in August of 1988; they were married May 12, 1990. Together, they became the proud parents of Tyler and Chase. John was employed at Stockdale Country Club for about a decade before he opened his own golf driving range, Tour Shots. John continued to give golf lessons as teaching was his true calling and a source of his happiness. Johns easy and welcoming personality allowed him to initiate conversations with others giving them an introduction to the game or helpful tip that would ultimately improve a putt, a grip, or offer advice for the perfect club. For the last twelve years, John worked at Valley Perforating. During this time, he was able to put his golf skills to great use. He played in many work-related tournaments resulting in multiple titles as Club Champion at his beloved Stockdale Country Club.

In keeping with John's goal setting, he kept a personal bucket list. One that he made known was to increase his number of holes in one from four to five. He

had his eye on The City Championship held at the Sundale Country Club. This past July 2021, while others would not have had the stamina, John played in the City Championship. On hole number eight, John hit his fifth hole in one! These accomplishments are not only a true testament to John's love of golf but also the grit and perseverance he was known for in all areas in his life.

John is survived by his wife of thirty-one years, Susan Boyles; his sons, Tyler (Meggan) Boyles, Chase (Leslie) Boyles, and Josh (Kandyce) Brown; his grandchildren Mollie, Spencer, Lily, Eliza, Harrison and Bradley; his parents, John Boyles Sr. and JoAnn Nichols.

John was preceded in death by his sister Becky Gibbons.

John also leaves behind to cherish his memory the Brothers of his Saturday golf group. This group of gentlemen were ever-present in John's life in health and throughout the duration of his illness. The bond that they shared was not only special but also a gift to the entire Boyles family. Saturdays at Stockdale Country Club will not be the same without him because of the huge impact he had on so many people. May his memory be for blessing to those who knew him as husband, father, Papa, son, and friend. There is no way to measure how much he will be missed. Fly high, JB!

A Celebration of John's life will be held at the Stockdale Country Club at 11:30 AM on Monday, November 22, 2021.
