DR. ROY FELLOWS JR., DDS

November 22, 1937 – November 5, 2021

-

Dr. Roy Fellows Jr., DDS took his last breath on November 5, 2021. He was born November 22, 1937, in San Diego, CA to his parents Roy Fellows Sr. and Georgia (Stephens) Fellows. He was a wonderful brother, loving daddy, and fantastic uncle.

Roy grew up in Bakersfield with his brother Ron, and sister Charmee Lynn. He attended elementary school in Bakersfield, he graduated from Newbury Park Academy in Newbury Park, CA. He continued his education at La Sierra College, Riverside, CA where he met Linda Leer, his future wife, whom he married in December 1960. In 1961, they traveled to Illinois where he entered Loyola University School of Dentistry in Chicago, where he graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1965.

Roy returned with wife, Linda and their 1 yr. old daughter Michelle, to Bakersfield where he began his dental practice. First, as an associate of Melvin Cochran, DDS and then moved into his own practice. He and Linda parted ways, although they remained friends.

Roy was involved with the Rotary East, he enjoyed a good game of golf, often, seasonal bird hunting, snow skiing and socializing with many great friends. His biggest hobby was motorcycles. He enjoyed his Gold Wing, but his greatest joy was his dirt bikes which he rode regularly in the Mojave Desert outside of California City, participating in numerous races. He also rode in the “Tecate' 500” in 1976 and the “Baja 1000” in 1979, with his brother Ron Fellows and close friend Bob Neufeld, finishing sixth in the motorcycle class.

In February 1982, Roy suffered a traumatic brain injury due to a motorcycle accident that ended his dental career. He lived quietly with his parents until 2001, when his mother passed away and then with a family who gave him great care, until February 2021. He returned to Bakersfield, where he resided at “The Park”, where he received loving care, until his passing.

Roy's friends and family will remember him as a great organizer of many events, be it social, motorcycle trips, which took him many times to Mike's Sky Ranch in Baja, ski trips to Mammoth or family related get togethers. He was a very true and loyal friend.

His daughter Michelle remembers him being very patient, affectionate, funny, and kind. Early memories are of her sitting on his lap, while he watched football and him patiently explaining the game to any of her questions. (She loves football to this day.) Teaching her to ride a motorcycle and snow ski, surprising her with a new canopy bed and encouraging her to always do her best.

His nephew Dean says, he always made sure that I was included in all of his activities. From traveling to Baja to ride dirt bikes, flying to Mammoth to snow ski or a two-week trip to Yellowstone, I was always included. Even after his accident, he always made my wife and kids laugh, he always had a funny story to tell. We will miss the walks around the block and his one-of-a-kind conversations. He was more of a Dad than an Uncle. Go Donk!

His sister Charmee feels she was lucky to have had him here, for his entire life and to have experienced the fun times together, be it at the races, or at one of the many parties at his home, for a BBQ. Recalling the summers, we traveled across the states and argued about who got the window seat and I never won out, having two older brothers made it difficult. The many vacations in Yosemite, too many great memories to mention.

He was preceded in death by his parents Roy Fellows Sr., Georgia Fellows and brother, Ronald Fellows. He is survived by his daughter Michelle Haakenson (Eric), grandchildren Karl & Kirsten, his sister Charmee Lynn Morehead, his nephew Dean Bertey (Tammy) Zach, Liz and Josh, his niece Aimee Morehead, Blaine and Bryar, nephews Brent Fellows and Steve Fellows.

There is no service planned at this time and thank you to the Mission Family Mortuary.
