First installment of real property taxes due Dec. 10

-

Jordan Kaufman, Kern County treasurer and tax collector, reminded the public Monday that the first installment of Kern County property taxes will become delinquent if not paid by 5 p.m. Dec. 10.

In order to avoid a 10 percent late penalty, property tax payments must be submitted or postmarked on or before that day.

Tax bills were mailed to all property owners whose addresses were on file with the county assessor as of Jan. 1, 2021. If you do not have your tax bill, you may request a substitute tax bill or you may obtain the amount of property tax due by calling 661-8683490 or by emailing ttc@ kerncounty.com.

The city of Bakersfield’s annual holiday grease-collection drive is underway, according to city officials.

The goal is to offer a safe disposal option for cooking oil and grease — which can cause severe problems for the city’s sewer system, according to a city news release.

Residents are asked to collect their used cooking oil and grease in sealed containers before dropping it off at the locations, the release notes.

There’s no charge for using one of the city’s collection points during the drive, which runs until Friday, Jan. 7.

Cooking oil and grease drop-off locations include the city of Bakersfield Wastewater Treatment Plant 3 (6901 McCutchen Road) and the North of River Sanitary District Main Office (204 Universe Ave.).

Those locations are open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Contact the Wastewater Division at 661326-3249 for more details.
