Jose Antonio Maya (Joey), was born on July 26, 1984 to Jose and Marta Maya, and passed away in his home on May 9, 2022.

Joey grew up in Taft, CA and graduated from Taft High School in 2002 and Taft College in 2007. Joey went on to graduate from Portervill­e College of Fire Academy. He then attended Shafter Correction­al Academy and was a Correction­al Officer at Taft City Correction­al Facility. Joey then continued as a Safety Coordinato­r for Taft Federal Prison until its closure.

Joey enjoyed the years of playing for Taft College, but his favorite sport was playing golf. While he enjoyed spending time with friends and family his most cherished moments were those that he spent with his son, Joseph.

He married Susanna Letourneau and they had a beautiful son, Joseph Antonio Maya Jr. Joey had the most beautiful smile that could light up a room. He loved his family and friends. His Catholic religion was a big part of his life.

He was preceded in death by his grandparen­ts, Isadora and Jose Maya, of Spain. Also his grandfathe­r, Pascual Madrigal, of Mexico.

Joey is survived by his wife, Susanna, his son Joseph Antonio; grandmothe­r, Elena Gutierrez; parents, Jose and Marta Maya; brother, Andres (Tabitha), son Dante, and brother, Thomas Maya; He is also survived by numerous Aunts, Uncles, and extended family members.

Rosary and Mass will be recited on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at 1:30pm at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Burial will be Thursday, May 26, 2022, at 11:00am at Lompoc Cemetery, Lompoc, CA.
