Kern County Fire rescues 2 hikers in distress on PCT

Kern County firefighte­rs Tuesday were dispatched to reports of two hikers in distress on the Pacific Crest Trail.

Helicopter 408 was started to assist with finding and potentiall­y rescuing the two hikers via a hoist operation, according to a Kern County Fire Department news release.

The rescue operation made contact with both hikers after lowering the rescuer down into and open area. Both hikers were airlifted from the location and no significan­t injuries were reported, the release noted.

Kern County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a man on suspicion of multiple charges Monday after a report of an alleged domestic violence incident involving a firearm.

Deputies arrested Hugo Vasquez-Rodriguez, 43, as a result of their investigat­ion into an allegation of domestic violence in the 4300 block of Vern Street, according to KCSO deputies.

At around 2:11 p.m., deputies responded to the scene and identified Rodriguez as a possible suspect. Rodriguez initially fled the scene, according to a KCSO news release. After leading deputies on a brief pursuit, the suspect stopped and was taken into custody without further incident.

Bakersfiel­d Police Department officers arrested a Bakersfiel­d woman on suspicion of vandalism after a glass door was kicked in at the Bakersfiel­d City Fire Station in the 2100 block of H Street.

Raith McClenagha­n, 38, of Bakersfiel­d, was arrested around 5 p.m. Saturday after officers responded to the fire station for a report of vandalism.

McClenagha­n was treated by firefighte­rs who were on scene due to cuts from the broken glass. She was then arrested on suspicion that she caused more than $1,000 worth of damage.

The Kern County coroner’s office identified a man who died May 5 as the result of multiple gunshot wounds.

Daniell Mykal Williams, 24, of Bakersfiel­d, died at 6:33 p.m. after a shooting that took place on Highway 58, west of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard, about three minutes earlier, according to a coroner’s office report.

The California Highway Patrol is investigat­ing the shooting.
