Darrin Philip Wedeking passed away on May 7, 2022 after privately battling leukemia valiantly.

Darrin was born in Bakersfield, CA, the first born of Philip and Jean Wedeking. He attended North High School and had an idyllic childhood. He learned to fly as a teenager but traded the experience to be a passenger as opposed to a pilot. As travel was more of an obsession not a hobby, he secured a job with an airline right after high school in order to travel extensively. He saw much of our country and the rest of the world, often times as a solo traveler, before settling down, changing jobs and starting a family.

Darrin was a well-respected 30-year employee of the Kern County Sheriff's Department, retiring January 2021. He married Erin Broyles on May 2, 1998 after a chance meeting and together they had two amazing sons, Ian Philip Wedeking and Evan Kenneth Wedeking. Darrin was an amazing son, brother, husband, father, uncle and friend & shared his earlier experiences with his wife and sons at every opportunity. He shared his love for travel, music and history and was adamant about passing on his German Heritage and traditions to his boys.

Darrin was preceded in his passing by his maternal grandparents, Lowell and Frances Culver. And his paternal grandparents, Siegfried and Annamae Wedeking.

Darrin leaves behind his wife Erin of 24 years, his son Ian and wife Haley of Colorado Springs, his son Evan of Bakersfield, his father and mother, Philip and Jean Wedeking of Bakersfield, sister Lisa Wedeking-White, brother-in-law Tony White, nephew Kolby White. Uncles, aunts and cousins, not to mention his inlaws of 24 years that were fortunate to call him their own, as well a host of friends and co-workers. We will all miss his unique sense of humor, his inquisitive spirit, his infinite knowledge of music and history, and his love of good German food and Hefeweizen.

A graveside memorial service to be held on Friday, June 3, 2022, at 10:30 am, at Greenlawn Cemetery (River Blvd.), followed by a celebration of this extraordinary man's life.
