Shirley Darlene Bowman went to heaven on May 19, 2022. She was born in Modesto, CA to Leslie and Luella Eikenberry, one of 4 children. Shirley grew up in Modesto attending Modesto schools.

Shirley met her husband, Lloyd, during World War II when he worked in a clothing distribution center in Modesto, CA. They married in May 1947 and built their new home in McFarland, CA where Lloyd began farming. They lived in that same home for 74 years.

Shirley loved music. She was a member of the church choir and also sang alto in a women's trio. She had a beautiful singing voice and had a song for every occasion. She taught Sunday School, was a room mother at her children's school for many years and loved working in her flower garden. She served as a member of the Delano Hospital Auxiliary for over 25 years and traveled many thousands of miles with Lloyd in their RV. She was famous for her apple pies and pomegranate jelly which she frequently delivered to family and friends. She loved her church and was a member of the Church of the Brethren since she accepted Jesus early in her life. Her faith was unwavering and she served her Savior well. She was always available to help a friend in need.

Shirley loved her family and was a devoted mother. Surviving family members include: sons Mark (Sondra) of McFarland and Dwight (Cindy) of Bakersfield; daughters Lynn Onsum (David) and Paula Levins (Anthony) of Bakersfield, and honorary daughter Tamara Van Dam of Fresno; grandchildren Aimee Gonzalez, Cory Bowman, Carrie Kumpel, Kyle Bowman, Scott Onsum, Andrew and Aaron Levins; and five great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Magnolia Place Assisted Living in Bakersfield who provided compassionate care above and beyond the call of duty during Shirley's residence there. Also, thanks to the staff of Hoffmann Hospice for their care during Mom's final days.

Services will be held on Saturday, June 4th, at 11 am at the Church of the Living Savior, 117 5th Street in McFarland, CA. A lunch reception will follow. All who loved Shirley are welcome. Graveside services will be on Saturday, June 11th, at 11 am at North Kern Cemetery in Delano.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support the ministries of the Church of the Living Savior.
