MARION RUTH GRISEDALE

October 27, 1930 – May 9, 2022

-

Marion Ruth Grisedale was born on October 27, 1930 in Bakersfield, California to Isaac Marion Davis and Margaret Elizabeth (Graham) Davis. She passed away in Bakersfield, California on May 9, 2022 with her family by her side.

Ruth married Charles Wheeler at the age of eighteen, and became a Mother to Kathleen Wheeler-Rickard and Michael Wheeler. She later married Richard Curry. Richard moved the family to Needles, California where he supported the family as an engineer for the Santa Fe railroad. After 18 years of marriage, she became a widow.

Ruth was introduced to Grant Grisedale in Bakersfield, and on January 16, 1977 she became a rancher's wife. Once married, Grant moved her to the Grisedale Ranch near Granite Station. Ruth was blessed with four new children through her new marriage. Larry, Robert, Mark and Michael Grisedale were now her children too.

Ruth learned to ride horses as a child while living in various remote places in Canada as well as the U.S., but she had to brush up on those skills when she married Grant. Ruth began working on the ranch by helping to gather cattle or get ready for brandings. She named one of her favorite horses Rain, but the grandkids called him fire dog, because he looked like a dalmatian. Ruth was named 1991 CattleWomen of the year by the Kern County CattleWomen's Association. She served as the organization's President for three years and as Treasurer for two years.

Ruth was an elegant woman who always dressed classy. It didn't matter if she was driving around the ranch on a dirt road or gathering cattle; she wasn't leaving the house unless she was in top form.

Grant and Ruth took many trips when time away from the ranch was possible. Most often the trips were visiting her sister Leona's ranch in British Columbia, Canada. She loved cooking for family and friends. She also loved her many dogs she had throughout the years including the rambunctious Shammi. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great-grandmother (GG and GG Woo).

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Grant Grisedale, her sons Robert Grisedale and Michael Wheeler, and her great friend Karin Trahan.

Ruth is survived by her daughter Kathleen Wheeler-Rickard (Leroy), son Larry Grisedale (Janet), daughter in law Claudia Grisedale, daughter in law Glenda Wheeler, son Mark Grisedale (Sandy), and son Michael Grisedale (Kellie). Ten grandchildren Heath Lawson (Trina), Jason Wheeler (Felicia), Dorian Wheeler, Marsha Wheeler, Marion Wheeler, Abby Chanley (Luke), Garrison Grisedale, Brant Grisedale, Graham Grisedale, and Caden Grisedale. Ten greatgrandchildren Mason Gutierrez, Hannah Lawson, Avion Jackson, Heath Lawson II, Andre Jackson, Aiden Wheeler, Aliyah Wheeler, Leilani Jenkins, Levi Chanley and Pepper Chanley. Three siblings Roy Davis, Leona Nicholas, and Charlotte Bradford. And many nieces and nephews.

Ruth will always be missed and loved by family and friends. We will forever cherish the time and memories we shared with her.

Funeral Services will be June 5, 2022 at 11:00 am at Bakersfield Seventh-day Adventist Church, 4201 Wilson Rd. Bakersfield CA, 93304.
