KEVIN JAMES CROSBY
May 9, 1971 - October 4, 2022
Kevin James Crosby was born May 9, 1971, to Lawrence and Patricia Crosby. He attended local schools and continued his education at Bakersfield College, California State University Bakersfield, and Chapman University where he received his master's degree in Education.
Kevin joined the National Guard and completed basic training just in time to be called to active duty during the Los Angeles Riots. He later joined the United States Army and became a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. Following his discharge from the Army, Kevin married Heather, whom he met in 2nd grade. They were blessed with two incredible children, Brett and Alyssa. Both are currently attending UCLA.
Kevin was a special education teacher with the Kern High School District. Throughout his teaching career, Kevin was the recipient of 23 grants and was recognized with many awards for his dedication and innovation in the classroom. In June 2022, Kevin received national recognition as 2022 Teacher of the Year for the Council for Exceptional Children.
Kevin loved sports of all type, but especially volleyball. His passion for the sport continued throughout his life as he coached for various schools and worked as a referee. Kevin loved the beach, and many family vacations took them to Oceanside. He traveled to sporting events across the country with his Grandpa Crosby, uncles, and cousins. Kevin had the BEST sense of humor and that stayed with him throughout his illness. Many family members, friends and co-workers have commented on that sense of humor as well as his hilarious Halloween costumes!
Kevin was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia and father-in-law, Chuck. He is survived by his wife, Heather, and his children of whom Kevin was so proud, Brett and Alyssa. He is also survived by his father and stepmother, Larry and Linda; siblings, Andrea (Kris), Allyson (Brian) and Nick; grandmothers Laura and Dixie; mother-in-law Darlyn; brother-in-law Bryon (Christy); as well as numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Kevin enjoyed a close friendship with his uncle, Ed.

A Celebration of Life will be held on November 12, 2022 at 11am at St. John's Lutheran Church at 4500 Buena Vista Rd, Bakersfield, CA 93311.
Kevin lived a lifetime of laughter and love.
