Man suffers life-threatening injuries in hit-and-run crash; police searching for suspect
The Bakersfield Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run incident that left one man suffering from life-threatening injuries on Monday, according to a news release from the agency.
Officers went to the 3000 block of Buck Owens Boulevard around 2:42 a.m. after receiving reports of a traffic collision. They found a man lying in the road suffering from injuries and took him to a hospital, the news release said.
The suspect’s vehicle left the scene before officers arrived, according to the news release. It was described as a dark-colored sedan.
The news release added the victim was crossing the road outside a crosswalk when he was struck by the vehicle, the news release said. The vehicle was last seen going south on Buck Owens Boulevard, police said.

A man accused of firing gunshots from a moving
vehicle near south Bakersfield was arrested Sunday, according to a Monday news release from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office.
Lamont sheriff’s deputies went to S. Union Avenue and Houghton Road after receiving a report Nov. 12 of fired bullets and found a spent shell casing at the scene. A witness said an unknown person fired gunshots from a moving vehicle, the news release said.
As a result of the deputies’ investigation, they served a search warrant at a residence in the 1700 block of Ridge Road. They arrested Agustine Granados-Cruz, and found an AR-15 style rifle with three loaded magazines having numerous live .223 ammunition, the news release said.
A Wasco man was arrested after he held a taxicab driver
at gunpoint, pistol-whipped her and stole her car, the Bakersfield Police Department said in a news release.
Luis Lopez, 22, entered a woman’s taxicab while it was parked in the 100 block of E. 18th Street and ordered her to drive him to the 800 block of 34th Street, the news release said. After arriving, he pistol-whipped the driver, stole items from her and then the vehicle, according to the new release.
Lopez was found at 1:14 a.m. Monday by BPD officers in the 6100 block of Knudsen Drive, and led officers on a chase. He was arrested after a short pursuit and a firearm plus the victim’s stolen items were recovered, the news release said.
Police were searching for Lopez because he violated his post-release community supervision and booked him into jail on suspicion of carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, kidnapping and other charges.

The Bakersfield Police Department requests the
public’s help to find a suspect who burglarized a residential garage.
The incident happened at 10:20 a.m. Oct. 20 in the 1000 block of Oleander Avenue. The suspect is a white or Hispanic man in his twenties who has a thin build and short brown hair.
He was last seen wearing a maroon T-shirt with white writing, blue jeans, gray shoes and a blue backpack.

A federal grand jury indicted the suspects in a 18-month
drug and weapons investigation called Operation Dark Nodes run by numerous local agencies including the Bakersfield Police Department and federal partners such as Homeland Security, according to a news release from the United States Attorney’s Office of the Eastern District of California.
The news release said confidential informants were used by authorities to buy drugs from those indicted, according to a news release. William Arthur Poush, 43, of Bakersfield and Rosa Fernandez, 43, of Bakersfield sold more than 50 grams of methamphetamine to a confidential informant, the news release said.
North Hollywood resident Timothy Robert Hingston, 39, and Spencer Matthew Hopper, 35, of Montrose distributed more than 500 meth and 400 grams of fentanyl to Poush, who then conspired with an intent to distribute that same amount, the new release said.
Bakersfield residents Dale Wesley Hubbard, 49, and Darlene Crystal Viera, 40, were indicted for selling more than 500 grams of meth and more than 40 grams of fentanyl, the news release added. Jorge Luis Yanes, 28, and Manuel Yanes, 25, were also charged with conspiracy to distribute meth and distributing meth, the news release said.
A federal grand jury indicted Bakersfield residents Luis Mauricio Castenon, 33, and Bryan Steven Reyes, 28, and charged them with conspiracy to distribute and distribution of methamphetamine. David Garcia, 35, of Bakersfield, was also indicted with being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, the news release added.
The defendants face a maximum sentence between 10 years to life in prison and $250,000 and $10 million in fines. Each defendant was indicted Nov. 17, according to the news release.
Two Bakersfield residents were arrested by Kern
County Sheriff’s deputies Sunday on suspicion of weapons and drugs charges, according to a KCSO news release issued Monday.
Deputies executed a search warrant in the 6500 block of Tallman Avenue related to a “firearms investigation,” the news release said. They found “several” firearms such as a non-serialized rifle, commonly known as a ghost gun, a high-capacity drum magazine, a loaded handgun, ammunition and suspected methamphetamine, the news release added.
Michael Jones, 41, and Kassandra Norris, 26, were arrested and booked on suspicion of weapons and drugs charges. Anyone with information about this incident can call the KCSO at 661-861-3110 or the Secret Witness at 661-322-4040.
