Bulls halt Celtics’ 9-game win streak

CHICAGO — DeMar DeRozan scored 28 points, Zach LaVine added 22 and the Chicago Bulls stopped Boston’s nine-game win streak, beating the Celtics 121-107 on Monday night.

Patrick Williams scored a season-high 17, and the Bulls made it look rather easy against the team with the NBA’s best record. They led by 13 at halftime, got it up to 21 in the third quarter and withstood a push to come away with the victory after dropping four straight and five of six.

Jayson Tatum led Boston with 28 points. Jaylen Brown scored 25 and Malcolm Brogdon finished with 23 points, shooting 5 of 6 on 3-pointers.

PELICANS 128, WARRIORS 83: At New Orleans, Brandon Ingram scored a season-high 34 points on the night Zion Williamson returned from a three-game absence, and New Orleans routed depleted Golden State.

Playing one night after winning on the road for the first time this season at Houston, the Warriors scratched Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins from the lineup.

BUCKS 119, TRAIL BLAZERS 111: At Milwaukee, Giannis Antetokoun­mpo scored 37 points and Milwaukee pulled away in the second half.

Antetokoun­mpo shot 16 of 24 to go with seven rebounds and six assists in 35 minutes. Milwaukee improved to 12-4 overall and 9-1 at home.

CAVALIERS 114, HAWKS 102: At Cleveland, Donovan Mitchell had 29 points and nine assists, and Darius Garland scored 26 to send Cleveland past Atlanta in their first meeting since the play-in tournament last season.

PACERS 123, MAGIC 102: At Indianpoli­s, Bennedict Mathurin scored 22 points and Indiana blew out Orlando for its fifth consecutiv­e victory.

TIMBERWOLV­ES 105, HEAT 101: At Minneapoli­s, Karl-Anthony Towns had 25 points and Anthony Edwards scored 10 of his 22 in the third quarter as Minnesota outlasted shorthande­d Miami.

Down to eight players due to injuries and rest on the second night of a back-to-back, the Heat led by 15 in the first half before Edwards sparked a third-quarter run.

KNICKS 129, THUNDER 119: At Oklahoma City, Jalen Brunson had a season-high 34 points while RJ Barrett and Julius Randle scored 25 each to lead New York.

NHL

ST. LOUIS — Justin Faulk had a power-play goal late in the third period and the St. Louis Blues extended its winning streak to seven games with a 3-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks.

Faulk’s goal snapped a 1-all tie with 4:13 left in the game. The Blues’ winning streak is the longest in NHL history for a team immediatel­y following a losing streak of eight games or more in regulation play.

Noel Acciari scored in the first period and added an empty-netter to seal the win. Jordan Binnington made 27 saves for St. Louis.

Cam Fowler scored and John Gibson made 23 saves for the Ducks, who have lost six of their last seven games.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

LAHAINA, Hawaii — Arthur Kaluma scored 18 points to lead all five Creighton starters in double figures, and the 10th-ranked Bluejays shook off a rocky start and pulled away for a 76-65 victory over No. 21 Texas Tech in the opening game of the Maui Invitation­al.

The Bluejays (5-0) committed a season-high 13 turnovers, all in the first half, and then their up-tempo offense started rolling.

Trey Alexander had 13 of his 17 points after halftime and Ryan Nembhard finished with 16. Baylor Scheierman had 11 points and 12 rebounds. Ryan Kalkbrenne­r, who rolled his ankle late in the first half and aggravated it late in the second, had 10 points.

NO. 8 DUKE 74, BELLARMINE 57: At Durham, N.C., Kyle Filipowski scored 18 points to lead Duke in scoring for the fourth time this season in a hard-earned win.

NO. 9 ARKANSAS 80, LOUISVILLE 54: At LAHAINA, Hawaii, Anthony Black dominated inside and out to finish with 26 points as Arkansas overwhelme­d Louisville in the second half in the first round of the Maui Invitation­al.

WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL

PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas — Freshman Kiki Rice scored 18 points and Gina Conti added 16 to help No. 20 UCLA hold off Marquette 66-58 in overtime to win the Battle 4 Atlantis championsh­ip.

Senior Charisma Osborne had just nine points after two big tournament games, but she was named the tournament’s most valuable player after joining with Conti and senior Camryn Brown to make down-the-stretch plays that guided the Bruins (6-0) to the title.
