Lorraine M. Anchordoquy, 82, known affectionately to many as “Machi”, passed away peacefully with family by her side in Bakersfield, CA. on Saturday, December 10, 2022. Born on August 16, 1940 at Mercy Hospital (Bakersfield), Lorraine is survived by her son Richard Sandrini (Wisconsin), her sister Yvonne Tillman (Anchordoquy), her nieces Julie Tillman and Jennifer Brown (Tillman), as well as 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren (California, Wisconsin and Texas).

Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband Francis Sprague (“Happer”) and her parents Cadet and Amelie (Etcheverry) Anchordoquy, who both immigrated to the U.S. from the Basque region of southern France.

The family would like to formally acknowledge and express their extreme appreciation and gratitude to Lorraine's long-time caregiver Krista Marquez, who tirelessly cared for Lorraine with much love and loyalty over the past several years. Lorraine loved and appreciated Krista as she would a family member, and Krista eventually became her honorary granddaughter.

During her early working life, Lorraine worked at the Kern County Courts and for various Bakersfield area law offices. During the 1980s, she went on to work independently as a transcriber for court reporters. She then opened her successful at-home day care business (“Home Away From Home”) in the early 1990s. Her daycare business touched many lives, providing quality and loving care to over 500 local Bakersfield pre-school children from its conception to present.

Although Lorraine faced many medical and health challenges in the final years of her life, she remained brave, strong, courageous and positive until the very end. She and her positive attitude and spirit were an unending inspiration to her family, who loved her deeply and will very much miss her presence in their lives.

There will not be a funeral or memorial service. Donations can be sent to the American Heart Association.
