BPD: Man reportedly attempted to rape woman in northeast Bakersfield
A Bakersfield man police said sexually assaulted a woman exercising in the 10000 block of Panorama Drive was arrested Thursday.
A witness to the attack followed suspect Anton Hill and directed officers to the 23-year-old man, the news release added. Hill and the victim aren’t related.
Anton was booked into jail on suspicion of attempted rape and false imprisonment, the Bakersfield Police Department added in the news release.

A startling discovery of human remains Wednesday unearthed from the south bank
of the Kern River has caused the Bakersfield Police Department to launch a homicide investigation, according to a police news release.
Officers found remains believed to be those of an adult under the Chester Avenue bridge, police added. The cause of death was unknown Wednesday, but the police officers said in a news release they are handling the incident as if it’s a homicide.
The investigation is ongoing and the Kern County coroner’s office will identify the remains.

A California Highway Patrol officer arrested four teens Wednesday in Bakersfield on
suspicion of stealing local products costing $7,000 and who are suspected of a string of thefts ranging from Southern California to Tulare County.
A Bakersfield CHP officer saw a blue Chevrolet exiting from a Highway 99 exit at a high speed, and pulled over the vehicle on South H Street and Bear Mountain Boulevard. Four teenagers — three boys and one girl — were arrested in connection to shoplifting alcohol worth $7,000 from shops in Shafter and Delano, a news release issued Thursday said.
These teens are suspected of stealing from several Rite Aids across many counties, the news release added.
A Bakersfield woman died early Thursday morning after she ran a stop sign and a man
hit her car near McFarland, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The 69-year-old woman and the McFarland man were approaching the intersection at Sherwood Avenue and Driver Road, from the north and east, respectively.
That intersection only has a posted stop sign for motorists going north and south, CHP noted in a news release.
The woman, whose identity has not been released, drove into the intersection directly into the path of the Johnny Carmona Rivas, 51, for unknown reasons and died at the scene, the news release said.
Drugs and alcohol were not a factor in this crash, the CHP said.

The Kern County Fire Department battled flames Wednesday night consuming a strip
mall in Taft.
Six engines and four trucks extinguished fires at several businesses in the 400 block of Center Street. No one was injured, and the Taft Police Department and Kern County Fire arson investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
