3 teens arrested on suspicion of gun, gang-related charges

Three teenagers were arrested in connection to gun and gang-related charges by probation officers, the Kern County Probation Department said Monday.

Joel Cruz, 18, Rene Gutierrez Cortez, 18, and a 17-year-old were arrested Thursday after probation officers went to a home in the 1000 block of South Williams Street and found a .40 caliber handgun, the news release said.

A Bakersfiel­d woman who was struck by a suspected

intoxicate­d driver was identified Monday by the Kern County coroner’s office.

Juana Torres de Calderon, 53, was driving with Lucy Martinez, 50, on Highway 65, north of Famoso Road when both Bakersfiel­d women were struck by William Pederson, 53, the California Highway Patrol previously said.

Torres de Calderon died on Valentine’s Day at the scene from blunt injuries. The coroner ruled the manner of death an accident.

She died at 3:50 a.m. Pederson faces second-degree murder, gross vehicular manslaught­er while intoxicate­d and two driving under the influence charges.

A man who was stabbed by a Taft woman was identi

fied Monday by the Kern County coroner’s office as 26-year-old Terrion Antwane Anderson.

Anderson lived in Taft and died Feb. 13 in the 700 block of Hawthorne Street around 8:46 p.m. The coroner said Anderson died of a laceration or stabbing and the manner of death was a homicide.

No arrests had been made as of 5 p.m. Monday.

The Bakersfiel­d Police Department is investigat­ing

an incident Monday in which suspects reportedly broke into a home and exchanged gunfire with the residence’s occupant.

A man pulled into this home Thursday and saw several men leaving his house and running away, the BPD wrote in a news release. A suspect began firing at the man who came home to his residence in the 2300 block of Pine Street and a shootout began, BPD added.

The homeowner had a non-life-threatenin­g injury while at least one suspect was injured, a news release said. Palmdale man Melvin Carter, 43, was in a serious yet stable condition after the gunfight, police wrote.

Frederick Minnoy III, 36, was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a firearm, conspiracy and attempted first-degree burglary.

Police are still investigat­ing the incident and ask anyone with informatio­n to call BPD at 661-327-7111.
