CHARLENE ANN BATTLES

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear Charlene Ann Battles; on February 17, 2023. She was 80 years young. Charlene was born and raised in Bakersfiel­d, California to Jack and Irene Carroll on May 20, 1942.

Charlene attended North High School where she met her sweetheart Harold Battles. They graduated together in 1960. Harold and Charlene married in 1961, and went on to have two sons Greg and Troy. They had cherished friends in their neighborho­od and loved spending time at their cabin in Sugarloaf. They built a beautiful life with their family in Bakersfiel­d.

Charlene had a successful career in Administra­tion, spanning over 20 years in multiple fields and retired from the Fruitvale school district. Her true passion was working as a trustee on the Board for Beardsley school district for 21 years. She loved improving the experience and education for students, family, and faculty. Charlene created lifelong friendship­s with many people throughout her journey as a trustee.

After losing Harold in 2003, Charlene was blessed to reconnect with her dear friend Elmer Lobre. They spent 16 years as companions traveling, reading, and laughing. Charlene was the matriarch of the Battles family; loving wife, Mother, Grandmothe­r, and Great-Grandmothe­r who will be truly missed.

Charlene is survived by her companion Elmer Lobre, her sons Greg (Renee) Battles, Troy (Karley) Battles, her grandchild­ren Laceedon (Christophe­r) Orth, Natalie (Jeff) Penney, Sara Dunehew, Austin (Katilyn) Stewart, and Travis Battles, her great-grandchild­ren Gage, Bailey, Mason, Lincoln, Emma and Delaney, her brother Wayne Carroll, nieces Juli Jarvis and Darrilyn Thomae.

A funeral service for Charlene will be held Thursday, March 16, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Hillcrest Memorial Park: 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfiel­d, CA 93306, followed by graveside service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. www.bakersfiel­d.com/obits
