Man dies after he’s struck by vehicle in southwest

A pedestrian died Monday morning in southwest Bakersfiel­d after a vehicle hit him, according to the Bakersfiel­d Police Department.

The victim was crossing the street at 6:16 a.m. near Harris and Wible roads when a motorist driving east struck him, though police said speed, alcohol or drugs didn’t factor into the crash, a BPD news release said. The driver cooperated with police, BPD reported.

Police are still investigat­ing so anyone who has informatio­n is asked to call 661-327-7111.

An Arvin man was in critical condition Monday after he

was shot multiple times Saturday in east Bakersfiel­d, reported the Kern County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies went to the 600 block of Monet Court after getting reports of a shooting victim and learned the 29-year-old was taken to Kern Medical, a news release said.

A Bakersfiel­d woman was arrested Sunday night in

connection to stealing 30 mailed packages at the Caliente post office.

Sheriff’s deputies found Rosa Hernandez-Chavarria, 32, near the post office at 27750 Caliente Bodish Road and apparently intoxicate­d by a controlled substance, a news release said.

She was “near several stolen postal items,” KCSO added.

Hernandez-Chavarria wasn’t in custody as of 5 p.m. Monday, but KCSO reported she was booked on suspicion of several felony charges.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested two people Sunday on suspicion

of burglarizi­ng a Wofford Heights store.

Kody Brooks and Justice Rycroft hid from deputies who were called to the French Gulch Marina General Store at about 3:51 a.m. Brooks hid under a boat in the marina while Rycroft hid from deputies in a vehicle, a news release from the KCSO said.

Both men were also accused of having 60 grams of suspected meth, the news release added.
