Stockdale brings back comic, collectible show

-

There will be plenty for pop culture fans to enjoy at Stockdale High School Comic Book & Collectible Show on Saturday.

This is the 27th event put on by organizer and Stockdale educator Tony Valenti. The first 25 were put on with the school’s comic book club, which was active from 1994 to 2007.

Although the club disbanded a few years back, past guests and vendors reached out to Valenti to revive the show and one was held last year.

Touting it as a “local show for local people,” Valenti said the event will feature more than 50 vendors.

Local comic book and collectible businesses including KRRJ Collectibles, 19th Street Toys & Collectibles, Silver Wolf Comics and Toys, Man Bites Dog Emporium and Paladins Game Castle will have booths.

Local creatives such as Sabrina Estrada (custom drawn art on old vinyl records), Kat Valenti (custom drawn vinyl decals), comic artist Nate Watson and artist Patty Martinez will also take part.

Items for sale will include comic books, Funko Pops, action figures, Pokémon cards and toys, Disney and “Star Wars” memorabilia, and original art, stickers, decals and more.

Food trucks will sell a variety of snacks. Cosplay is encouraged although there won’t be a contest.

More than a dozen raffles will be held with $1,000 worth of donated items. Tickets ($1 each, 12 for $10 or 25 for $20) will be sold until 2:30 p.m. with the drawing right after.

Proceeds from rental spaces, raffle and donations will benefit Stockdale’s Associated Student Body, Valenti said. Free to attend, the show will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the school’s quad, 2800 Buena Vista Road. Parking and event access are available from lots off Buena Vista Road and White Lane.
