Ready to run: Bakersfiel­d Amazing Race set for March 23

Ooh la la! The Bakersfiel­d Amazing Race is celebratin­g its 10th year with a Paris/ French theme to its event on March 23.

Early bird registrati­on is available now for the friendly competitio­n that combines elements of a scavenger hunt, obstacle course and trivia quiz along with a 5K.

Teams of two to four players race between 11 different venues through downtown Bakersfiel­d.

Up for grabs is a $400 first prize — and bragging rights.

Teams can also compete for best costume and best Facebook/Instagram photo in contests held by event organizer Stewards.

Even if you lose you win, thanks to a finish-line event at Downtown Red Zone, where winners will be announced and everyone can enjoy food and beverages.

The race begins at 9:30 a.m. sharp at Wall Street Alley, where contestant­s can pick up their registrati­on packets from 8 to 9:15 a.m. The race wraps up at 1 p.m. at the same location before everyone heads over to

Early bird registrati­on is available now for $35 per team. The cost increases to $40 on Feb. 1, then $50 on March 1 and $55 if you register the day of the event. Students pay $20 per team.

Funds raised benefit Stewards, a faith-based

organizati­on serving the mentally disabled and elderly.

As a representa­tive payee agency approved by the Social Security Administra­tion, Stewards manages the financial benefits of more than 1,000 clients to ensure that their basic needs for housing, utilities and food are met. Visit stewardsin­c.
