Amazing Race brings out the best downtown

The 10th annual Bakersfield Amazing Race sent competitors running through downtown Saturday in a madcap search for clues leading to a $400 first prize.

Offering hours of fun and exercise, the event combined the best aspects of a puzzle, an obstacle course, a scavenger hunt and a costume contest.

Dance performances and skits added to the humor as teams collaborated physically and mentally to reach the finish line ahead of the competition.

Dozens attended the event, which was sponsored by the nonprofit organizations Stewards.
