Who is an ‘elite’?

-

I must take umbrage with John Pryor’s recent Community Voices piece (“Who is really at the helm of our ship of state?,” March 13). First, to state that “our election battles of Republicans versus Democrats are almost irrelevant today at the presidential level” is bogus unless you’re trying to convince people not to vote. There are stark differences between the candidates.

Next he implies that the elites of the country are in opposition to the populists like himself. I would consider the Supreme Court justices that now deny a woman her reproductive autonomy as elitist. One synonym of elitist is superior. Another is aloof. As in this case, they are not in touch with popular opinion.

As for leftist elitists using the judicial system to get rid of Trump, while there is some truth to that, there are plenty of conservative judges who have ruled against Trump and plenty of conservatives who have sat on the grand juries that voted to bind him over for criminal trials. Considering that conservative elitists immorally fund lavish lifestyles for certain Supreme Court justices, I would say buying off Supreme Court justices does nothing but destroy the vision of our Founding Fathers.

As for Trump’s proven performance, he begged the governor of Georgia to find him enough votes to win his state’s election by one vote; separated thousands of young children from their parents; withheld coronavirus information for months because it might interfere with his reelection effort; and sent a mob to the Capitol to hang Mike Pence. There is so much more, but space won’t allow it.
