BEVERLY HISLOP

Beverly G. Hislop, 95, passed away peacefully with family members at her side. Born to Paul Lee and Jean Lee in 1929, Beverly grew up in Bakersfiel­d, CA. After graduating from KCUHS (now BHS), she attended Bakersfiel­d College before transferri­ng to San Jose State University. Bev married her college sweetheart Jack B. Hislop in 1949 while she was studying at San Jose State University and Jack was studying at Stanford University. Bev earned her Bachelor's degree in Education in 1950 and taught elementary school in the San Jose School District before partnering with her husband Jack as the legal secretary in his law practice.

Bev was one of the founding members of The Junior League of Bakersfiel­d in 1965 and served as its second President in 1966 and 1967. She led or participat­ed in many of the programs they created, including the constructi­on of the Community House in 1966, serving as Chair of the Camellia Ball fundraiser, orchestrat­ing the Saturday Adventurer­s' Program, and the Children's Book Fair which was co-sponsored with the Kern County Library.

Bev was highly supportive of her childrens' education, adventures, and activities, including Stockdale Riding Club, swim and track clubs, skiing, scuba diving, and travel.

Bev played golf and was an avid tennis player for 40 years at Stockdale Country Club. She served as President of Stockdale Country Club Women's Organizati­on in 1991-1992. She enjoyed playing bridge with her close friends and taught bridge for many years.

For many years Bev enjoyed serving as Office Manager for Hislop Photograph­y. Bev was preceded in death by her loving husband Jack Hislop. Bev is greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her three children and their spouses, Lorna and Robert Brumfield, Scott and Julie Hislop, John and Rachelle Hislop; and her four grandchild­ren Paul, Ian, Jack, and Julia.

Bev will be remembered for her unwavering optimism and positive attitude, which brightened the lives of all around her and which is a gift to her family and friends. She will also be remembered for her sense of humor, her devotion to her family, and her service to the local community. Private services will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Bakersfiel­d Junior League.
