John “Jack” Malvey, 72, passed away on April 11, 2024 after an extended illness. Jack is survived by his wife, Connie Johnson, his children, Kyra Malvey and Eric Malvey; two brothers, Bill Malvey and Frank Gorman, as well as several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog Lucy. Jack was predeceased by his brother Dick Gorman.

Jack graduated from Georgetown University in 1973. He left for a two-year stint in the Air Force before continuing graduate studies at the New School for Social Research and beginning a brilliant career in finance at Moody’s. From there he continued on to Kidder Peabody, Lehman Brothers and BNY Mellon. Along the way, he earned his CFA as well as a number of professional accolades including the 2003 induction into the Fixed Income Analysts Society Hall of Fame. He was especially gratified to be named to the Institutional Investor #1 All Star Team for 13 straight years.

During his professional career, Jack travelled extensively, visiting innumerable countries on six continents. His love of travel led to many memorable family adventures including a stunning safari in South Africa. Jack loved sports and was able to continue his love of the game of baseball while playing in an over-40 league. Golf was also a passion, if not a strength, in later years. Jack loved history and economics, and was curious and knowledgeable about just about everything, with the exception of anything involving a screwdriver. His sense of humor and decency and generosity will be missed by many.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Jack’s wonderful caregivers, Karl, Peter and Jaquie. A Celebration of Life will be planned for a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. For online condolences please visit www.moriartyfh.com
