Burlington Stores will open Clifton location next week

- Daniel Munoz

An opening date of April 26 has been set for a Burlington Stores location at the River Front Center on Route 3 west in Clifton.

Once the home of Bed Bath & Beyond, 404 Route 3 will house Burlington, an off-price department store once known as Burlington Coat Factory.

The new store brings the total number for the chain to 48 in New Jersey and more than 1,000 nationwide. Burlington offers women’s fashion and accessories; menswear, including big and tall sizes; children’s clothing; footwear; baby goods and home décor. Plans call for between 65 and 75 new hires at the location.

“Our goal is to continue to offer area residents low prices on brand name merchandise for the entire family and home,” said Michael O’Sullivan, Burlington Stores’ chief executive officer.

Store hours will be 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Sunday, according to a release. A ribbon-cutting is set for May.

On May 10 and 11, the first 100 customers age 18 and older will be able to use a $10 bonus card with their purchase, followed by a free Burlington umbrella on May 12 with no purchase necessary.

Burlington’s owners have “done a lot over time to really improve the look of their stores, to improve their brands, to improve their offerings to customers,” said Matthew Harding, chief executive officer of North Plainfield-based Levin Management Corp., a commercial real estate services firm, in an interview last year.

Mayor Raymond Grabowski said Burlington’s announcement is great news for Clifton.

“It’s nice when national brands come to the city,” he said in March. “It helps the city by bringing more people here to shop.”
