A DANGEROUS METHOD

(Starz on Comcast) The insinuation in David Cronenberg’s sex drama is strong, the acting stronger. Adapted by Christopher Hampton from his play, the film focuses on the professional and emotional bond between the Swiss psychoanalyst Carl Jung (Michael Fassbender), his mistress and assistant Sabina Spielrein (Keira Knightley), and Sigmund Freud (Viggo-Mortensen). With Cronenberg, devilishly, the sex proves more curative than the talking. (R; runs through Nov. 11) WESLEY MORRIS

CITY OF MEN

(Encore on Comcast) This companion film to “City of God” follows best friends (Douglas Silva and Darlan Cunha) as they’re drawn onto opposite sides of a gangsta war in Rio. The violence isn’t as despicably glamorous as it is in “City of God.” It’s the more modest-movie, but director Paulo Morelli and screenwriter Elena Soarez don’t have the smoothest time lacing the escalating gang war with the escalating melodrama between Ace and Wallace. (Comcast Movie Collections: Just In) A wearyingly gross shock comedy omnibus that’s loaded with A-list stars and every bodily fluid imaginable. Naturally, there’s a Farrelly brother involved— Peter, who produced, co-wrote, co-directed, and generally acts as ringmaster. Actors hoodwinked into playing along include Kate Winslet, Halle Berry, and Richard Gere. The shock is mostly in seeing them here. (R; runs through Dec. 10) TY BURR
