Witness alerted police to Urías

-

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías was arrested after someone saw a physical altercation between a man and a woman outside a Major League Soccer stadium and contacted police, according to the arrest report released Thursday.

The report by the Department of Public Safety provided details on Urías’s arrest late Sunday on South Hoover Street outside BMO Stadium in Exposition Park, south of downtown Los Angeles.

The report said DPS officers were patrolling outside the stadium after the soccer match in which Lionel Messi played in front of numerous celebrities. They were contacted by someone, whose name was not publicly identified, regarding a physical altercation between a man and a woman.

The report said DPS officers talked to the individuals involved and determined a physical altercation occurred. The investigation resulted in Urías’s arrest on suspicion of corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant.

Urías posted $50,000 bail and was released early Monday. He is due in court on Sept. 27.

Soroka: No surgery

Former All-Star Michael Soroka is out for the season but did receive a bit of good news: His latest injury apparently won’t require surgery.

The Atlanta Braves placed Soroka on the 15-day injured list in another setback for the righthander whose once-promising career was sidetracked by a pair of major leg injuries.

After undergoing a battery of tests, the Braves medical staff determined that forearm inflammation was the cause of numbness in Soroka’s fingers. No tears were found, leaving rest and rehab as the most likely path to recovery.

Mariners top Rays

Luis Castillo went six innings to win his sixth consecutive decision, Mike Ford drove in a run, and the Mariners beat the Tampa Bay Rays, 1-0, in a matchup of playoff contenders in St. Petersburg, Fla.

“Our guys stepped up tonight,” manager Scott Servais said. “Wow!”

Castillo (12-7) allowed four hit, four walks, and struck out eight. The righthander worked out of two-on, one-out jams in each of the first three innings. He threw 108 pitches.

“In those situations I don’t lose focus,” Castillo said through a translator. “If you look at my career, I actually like those situations because it helps me get focused. The way that I was able to battle and battle just shows the way this team is.”

Isaiah Campbell and Matt Brash both went an inning before Andrés Muñoz worked the ninth to get his 12th save and complete a four-hitter.

Yankees lose again

Carlos Rodón allowed Spencer Torkelson’s first two-run homer two batters in and was tagged for seven runs in 3„ innings as the New York Yankees dropped back to .500 with a 10-3 loss to the Tigers. Detroit dealt a blow to the slim playoff hopes of the Yankees (70-70) who had tied a season high of five straight victories and had won eight of nine . . . Rookie Ryan Pepiot pitched a perfect game for 6 „ innings as Urías’s replacement in the Dodgers’ rotation, and Los Angeles routed the Miami Marlins, 10-0, for just their second win in seven games. Josh Bell grounded a single up the middle with two outs in the seventh for the only hit off Pepiot . . . Ronald Acuña Jr. hit two of Atlanta’s five home runs, Matt Olson increased his major league-leading total to 47 and the Braves beat slumping Adam Wainwright and the St. Louis Cardinals, 8-5.
