Jets name Wilson QB starter once again

-

Zach Wilson is back in as the Jets’ starting quarterback. Wilson, benched for two games after struggling in place of the injured Aaron Rodgers, will be under center Sunday against the visiting Texans.

“Zach gives us the best chance to win,” coach Robert Saleh said Wednesday. “And we’ll give him another opportunity to go prove that.”

The decision came a day after New York waived Tim Boyle following two ineffective starts and signed Brett Rypien off Seattle’s practice squad.

Lawrence is better

Trevor Lawrence has ditched the crutches and the walking boot.

The Jaguars quarterback feels “a lot better” than he thought he would two days after sustaining a high ankle sprain against Cincinnati.

Lawrence sat out practice Wednesday but wouldn’t rule out playing at Cleveland Sunday, a matchup that could help decide the AFC wild-card race or postseason seeding down the stretch.

Lawrence injured his right ankle when he was stepped on late in Monday night’s 34-31 overtime loss to the Bengals. Xrays were negative, but a high ankle sprain could take weeks to fully heal.

Dobbs is Vikings QB

Joshua Dobbs still has the starting quarterback job for the Vikings.

Coach Kevin O’Connell said Dobbs will remain the starter this week after he threw four interceptions — three of them off deflections of varying degrees — during a damaging 1210 loss at home to Chicago Nov. 27.

Colts DE suspended

The NFL suspended Colts defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad six games for violating the league's performance-enhancing substance policy.

He will not be eligible for Indy's five remaining regular-season games and he will either sit out next year's season opener or a playoff game.

Bills will play Miller

Though disappointed in the allegations of domestic violence made against Von Miller, Bills general manager Brandon Beane said Miller will participate in practice and is expected to play Sunday when the Bills visit the Chiefs.

Greenlaw apologizes

49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw said he has exchanged apologies with the Eagles security official after a sideline dustup led to both being ejected.

Greenlaw and Eagles chief security officer Dom DiSandro got ejected during San Francisco's 42-19 win after Greenlaw was called for unnecessary roughness on a tackle of DeVonta Smith near the Eagles sideline.

Jaguars: $22m stolen

A former financial manager for the Jaguars has been accused of stealing more than $22 million from the franchise through its virtual credit card program between 2019 and 2023, according to a seven-page court filing.

Amit Patel, who worked for the Jaguars for five years starting in 2018, is charged with one count of wire fraud and one count of illegal monetary transaction in documents filed in US District Court in Jacksonville.
