Naming the Sesquicentennial King and Queen
Borough’s 150th anniversary follows tradition by featuring court
A huge part of Boyertown’s Sesquicentennial Block Party was the crowning of their 2016 Sesquicentennial King and Queen — Kyle Jaworski and Calista Bender.
The court proudly rode in convertibles driven by several area car clubs and took center stage at the crowning ceremony surrounded by proud parents and well-wishers. The contest consisted of eight Boyertown Senior High School students who made the commitment to raise funds, one dollar for one vote, that would have half of their funds raised going to the char-
ity of their choice.
In five short weeks, they collectively raised $10,000.
Participating princesses:
Cassandra Vu, daughter of Frank and Connie Vu, Pottstown, is a senior and plans to attend Temple University where she will major in pre-med. Her choice of charity is Action Against Hunger.
Elizabeth Haeckler, daughter of Noel and Jackie Haeckler of Bechtelsville, is a senior planning to attend University of Pittsburgh to major in Chemical Engineering. The charity she chose is the Ronald McDonald House.
Olivia Crocker, daughter of H. Christopher and Mary Crocker of Barto, is a senior planning to pursue a medical degree at the University of Penn. Her charity is the American Cancer Society.
Calista Bender, daughter of David and Kristine Bender of Bechtelsville, is a senior and plans to attend Muhlenberg College to major in neuroscience. Her charity is the American Cancer Society.
Participating princes:
Kyle Jaworski, son of Joseph and Deborah Jaworski, Gilbertsville, is a senior and he plans to continue his education at Montgomery County Community College, then transferring to a school for optometry. He has chosen ALS Foundation as his charity.
Adam Gilbert, son of Kevin and Marsha Gilbert, Barto, is a senior and is planning to attend Penn State University. The charity he chose is Four Diamonds Fund.
Matthew Elsier, son of Steven and Andrea Elsier, Gilbertsville, is a senior planning to attend St. Joseph’s University. His charity is Wounded Warriors Project.
Samuel Duffy, son of Shawn and Cathy Duffy, Perkiomenville, is a senior and plans to go to Penn State University to major in Mechanical Engineering. He plans to give his donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The young men were outfitted with tuxedos, generously donated by Clothes to Home Cleaners and Tux Rental, while the young ladies were given the royal treatment of a morning at Joseph’s Hair Salon and Spa with complementary hair and make-up appointments. Finally, Wendy’s flowers provided the ladies with a floral touch.
This crowning ceremony wouldn’t have been complete without having their 1966 Centennial Queen do the honors of crowning the new winners. Mrs. Jude Neiman, had been crowned at the 1966 Coronation Ball held at the Boyertown Community Park. She, along with her court, were in the 1966 Centennial Parade and at many other events throughout the year.
On Saturday, Neiman rode along with the students — fifty years later and just as beautiful — in the 2016 Sesquicentennial Parade. The students crowned for having raised the largest total funds were Sesquicentennial Queen Calista Bender and Sesquicentennial King Kyle Jaworski.
