Oley Valley baseball reaches semifinal

OLEY VALLEY 12, FAIRFIELD 1 >> Pete Vaccaro hit a grand slam while Matt Fisher was 2-for-4 and let up just three singles as the top-seeded Lynx routed the No. 9 Green Knights in five innings in a District 3-AA quarterfinal on Thursday, May 26.
Vaccaro finished 4-for-4 with three runs scored while Daymond Zweizig was 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs. Fisher struck out one and let up an unearned run.
Softball
OLEY VALLEY 3, TRINITY 0 >> Bri Zettlemoyer pitched a twohit shutout to lead the 10thseeded Lynx past the No. 7 Shamrocks in the fist round of the District 3-AA playoffs on Tuesday, May 24.
Nicole Smith was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs and was part of a double play to close out the game. Brooke Yerger had two RBIs while Allison Nawrocki had one. DELONE CATHOLIC 5, OLEY VALLEY 2 >> The Lynx lost their District 3-AA quarterfinal to Delone, ending their season on May 26.
Ally Nawrocki went 3-for-4 for 10th seeded Oley (11-10), which outhit the Squires 7-4.
Brooke Yerger added two hits (double).
Zettlemoyer took the pitching loss while Delone pitcher Cassie Rickrode got the win, striking out eight in her seven innings.
Track and field
PIAA CHAMPIONSHIPS >> Oley Valley junior Jacob Gieringer took the bronze in the Class AA shot put with a 54-3¼. Gieringer trailed only Schuylkill Valley Joey Mundell (60-3½) and Schuylkill Haven’s Noah Fritz (54-5½).
Oley Valley sophomore Rebecca Snyder medaled by finishing 6th in the girls’ Class AA 3,200 meters with a time of 11:15.45.
Boyertown senior Sarafina Valenti placed 11th in the AAA discus with a 1140. Kutztown senior Jocelen Ruth won the event with a 137-0.
The Bears’ Rebecca Hemingway placed 30th in the long jump (16-5).
Elijah Shalaway missed out on the javelin finals after suffering an apparent arm injury. His throw of 176-9 was good enough for 12th place, though he entered as the No. 2 seed.
Oley’s Nate Badgerow placed 10th in the AA discus with a 137-9.
