Huff’s Union Church presents organ program July 2
Bryan Dunnewald will present an organ program on July 2 at 1:15 p.m., at Huff’s Union Church, 540 Conrad Road, Alburtis (north from Route 100 on Huff’s Church Road). Mr. Dunnewald is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Organ Performance at the Curtis Institute of Music, and his program will include works by Dietrich Buxtehude, Percy Whitlock and Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck.
The program is part of the closing events for the Organ Historical Society’s 61st Annual Convention, taking place in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas beginning on June 26. The Organ Historical Society celebrates, preserves and studies the pipe organ in America in all its historic styles, through research, education, advocacy and music. Their annual convention is a week-long celebration of historic pipe organs, which includes the 19th century instrument at Huff’s Union Church.
The Krauss organ at Huff’s Union Church was built by the Krauss Organ Company in Kraussdale, near Palm, in 1852, one of the many organs built by Joan and Andrew Krauss and their descendants. The organ was used in the first church building on the present site, until that church building was taken down, and a new building erected on the same spot in 1881. The organ was stored in the barn of Jacob Moyer until 1883, when it was installed in the new church.
This program is open to the public; bring your friends and neighbors!
