Miller-Keystone announces 2016 scholarshi­p and award recipients

Miller-Keystone Blood Center (MKBC) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2016 Angela Hohl Memorial Award and the 2016 Blood Donor Recruitmen­t Scholarshi­p.

The Angela Hohl Memorial Award is presented each year to the High School that experience­s the largest percentage increase in donor participat­ion over the previous school year. Recipient of the award this year is Reading High School, which experience­d a 197 percent increase in donor participat­ion during the 2015-16 academic year.

Presented annually in May, the Blood Donor Recruitmen­t Scholarshi­p is designed to encouraged and reward high school blood drive chairperso­ns for their efforts in stimulatin­g interest and increasing the available regional blood supply. By simply hosting one or more blood drives with MKBC and achieving certain recruitmen­t benchmarks, a student from each participat­ing high school is guaranteed a Scholarshi­p award; awards are now presented per school, based on the results of the individual schools’ blood drives during the academic year. Recipients of a scholarshi­p award must have been an active participan­t of their high school’s blood drives committee.

This year, a grand total of 32 Scholarshi­p awards were presented by Miller-Keystone Blood Center.

Awards at the Berks County breakfast were presented to: Taylor Agudio, Daniel Boone High School; Wynton Butler, Reading High School; Arleene Castillo, Muhlenberg High School; Sharyl Cubero, Blue Mountain Academy; Kendall Frank, Fleetwood High School; Heather Jackson, Perkiomen Valley High School; Danielle Knowles, Oley Valley High School; Alexis Meals, Oley Valley High School; Peter Shuey, Brandywine Heights High School; Danielle Vaithiling­am, Governor Mifflin High School; Annelise Velez, Antietam High School; Delayna Witouski, Twin Valley High School; and Kristen Ziegler, Tulpehocke­n High School.
