Triple Threat Bearcats win ECTB National title

The 16U Triple Threat Bearcats went undefeated this weekend on their way to capturing the ECTB National Championsh­ip. Previous tournament wins earned the Bearcats a berth into this National Championsh­ip Series where some of the best tournament teams converge to battle it out. After Saturday’s games the Bearcats secured the #1 seed entering the single eliminatio­n championsh­ip round. On Sunday the Bearcats started the day with a 9-3 win over Team Elite. They then defeated the Maryland Lightning 10-9 to move on to the championsh­ip game where they defeated the Eagleville Phillies 9-5 to secure the title.

The team includes Quinn Mason, Tyler Spitko, Chuck Farrow, Noah Kurtz, Hunter Bales, Andrew Curran, Mike Freed, Adam Campbell, Peyton Schlott, Aidan Casey, Quinton Roma and Josh Melchior.

The team is coached by Mike Casey, Jim Roma and head coach Dan Spitko.

14U Baseball

The Triple Threat Bearcats 14U baseball team won the National Championsh­ip Series tournament over the August 5th-7th weekend up in Allentown, PA. The field of 10 teams from Pennsylvan­ia, New York and New Jersey converged in hopes of winning the title. In seeding games, the Bearcats lost to the Sussex County Express 6-4 on Friday. Going into Saturday, the Bearcats needed a good showing to earn a top seeding spot on Sunday. The Bearcats beat the Grand Slam Bluerocks 9-1 and then followed that up by defeating Newtown 18-2. Going into the championsh­ip Sunday, the Bearcats earned the No. 2 seed. To bring home the title, they needed to win three straight games and would do this with stellar defense, pitching and timely hitting. In the first

game, the Bearcats defeated Newtown 11-1 then followed that up in a nail-bitter by defeating the PA Shockers Blue 3-2. In the championsh­ip game, the Bearcats would face Gallagher Elite. In a tight game with stellar pitching by Dylan Bish, the Bearcats came out on top 2-1 to earn the Championsh­ip.

The team includes Adam Schultz, Joseph Melchior, AJ Torres, Daniel Goffredo, Wyatt Yaindl, Andrew Falk, Mitch Balint, Jared Pinter, Gavin Troutman, Bish and Christian Renninger. The Bearcats are coached by Tom Troutman, Pete Bish, Tom Melchior and Geoff Pinter.

8U Baseball

Daniel Boone’s 8U Baseball team turned in a strong 2016 season, which came to an end this past weekend.

Boone finished 29-11, their only loss coming in the final game of the Cal Ripken Regionals in Rome, NY against Marlton, NJ last weekend. On the season, the team won their state title and also captured six other tournament­s.

Basketball

Earlier this week, the Koch kids captured the 5th-6th grade TriCounty League title.

Coached by Hall of Famer Bob Koch, the team won the championsh­ip game 45-30. The team consists of several players who frequent Koch’s individual and group basketball training facility in Pottstown.

Ty Mishock was named the Most Valuable Player in the league, scoring 12 points in the championsh­ip game.

The team consists of Ron DiPietro, Cole Tyrell, Erik Christman, Jake Blackmore, Duke Harrer, MJ Kiernan, Mishock, Dom DeMito, Max Lebisky and Mark Dougherty.

Along with Koch were coaches Theresa Walsh, Kyle Kuhn, Kay DeMito, Brooke Mullen, John Mishock, Rachel Miller and Rebecca Painter.
