Historical Society slates program on Golda Meir
Returning for the September program of the New Hanover Township Historical Society will be popular speaker Ann Atkins who will present “Golda Meir— True Grit” at the Sept. 14 meeting. This will be the second part to Atkins’ presentation she gave last May.
Ann Atkins is a writer and national speaker who shares history’s tales of courage and triumph to help enlighten people of today with relevant stories from the past.
About Golda Meir, Atkins writes that, “Golda grows up in the Midwest challenging any pressure to conform. Running away from home, leading protest parades and making soapbox speeches were all decisions that prepared Golda to leave American comforts behind and build for her people a place where Jews can live under the protection of their own country. Golda Meir was a signer of their Declaration of Independence and a Prime Minister of Israel.”
The program will begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at the restored Swamp Creek School House in the township’s Swamp Creek Park on Reifsnyder Road. The address is 3189 Reifsnyder Road, Gilbertsville PA 19525. The public is welcome to attend and refreshments will be served at an informal get-together at the conclusion of the presentation. Seating is limited. Also to be noted: the Society has changed their meeting date from the fourth Wednesday of the month to the second Wednesday.
