Old rink to be utilized for Pickle Ball court

Lions, Rotary clubs work together to bring courts to fruition

Local clubs are working together to bring the game of Pickle Ball to Boyertown.

Roger Lehmann of the Boyertown Lions Club and Charles Haddad of the Boyertown Rotary Club attended the Sept. 6 meeting of the Boyertown Borough Council to discuss the construction of a Pickle Ball Court at Boyertown Community Park.

The proposed court would take over a portion of the old ice skating rink. This is an existing macadam area currently used for parking.

The clubs would work together with support from the Pottstown Health and Wellness Foundation to restripe the area and install three Pickle Ball Courts along the southern

side. A six foot high chainlink fence would be placed around the courts.

The club representatives were seeking approval from council to move forward with the project.

Council members discussed the parking situation in Boyertown and how many high school students are parking in the ice skating rink area.

Haddad and Lehmann suggested placing parking restrictions, such as a three hour limit, so spots would be available for pickle ball players.

Council president Frank Deery said that he’s monitoring the situation. Council member Chuck Heller recommended holding off on any parking restrictions until there is a problem.

All council members were in favor of the proposal. The borough will provide a letter of recommendation addressed to the Pottstown Health and Wellness Foundation to aid the grant application process.

It was not announced when the courts will be available to the public, however Haddad did express timing for council’s approval was important due to upcoming meetings about the project.
