Ethan, a Gilbertsville resident, is a 6-year-old boy who was born with a congenital heart defect. A few weeks after his 2nd birthday, following his 4th surgery, Ethan suffered a cardiac arrest which led to a severe anoxic brain injury.
As a result, he is wheelchair bound with Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy, in addition to his congenital heart condition.
“It takes a village” to raise a child like Ethan, trying to provide as normal a life as possible for he and his family. As he grows, he requires new equipment to accommodate his needs; Ethan needs a portable ramp and lift so he and his family can visit friends and extended family members and to help Ethan continue to actively engage his wheelchair-bound world. There are also therapies available which are beneficial for his cognitive and physical abilities which are totally outof-pocket expenses.
Members of the community can help Ethan and his family, by participating in the 5K Run or 1 Mile Walk on Oct. 2 or by contributing to “The Ethan Schwartz Special Needs Trust.”
Contributions can be made online at <http:// www.gofundme.com/eathansheartjourney> or mail donations to “The Ethan Schwartz Special Needs Trust,” PO Box 486, Gilbertsville, PA 19525. To learn more about Ethan’s journey, visit <http://youtu. be/ZRAthgyCCx8>.
