The Bally Lions Club recently presented 16-year-old Thomas Heid, son of Richard and Susan Heid of Gilbertsville, with a “set of wheels” in the form of a tricycle.

This is something the club has done every year, for the past three years, to help local disabled youth.

“The first one we did — the girl drives the trike around everywhere,” said Sandy Moser on behalf of the Bally Lions Club. Emma Schott of Bally was the first recipient.

Thomas never rode a bike or trike before due to his disabilities, so members of the Lions Club took time to teach him how to ride and navigate.

“In no time at all, he was riding around the parking lot,” said Moser. “It was really rewarding to see.”

Thomas’ family found the Bally Lions Club through a referral.

“Stuff like that gets out,” she said, noting the appreciation from the youth. “It made you cry. He kept riding around, was doing really well with navigating.”

This is a busy time of year for the club. They will be hosting the Bally Halloween Parade on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. In the event of rain, the parade will be held Thursday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m.

The Bally Lions Club Breakfast will be held Sunday, Oct. 23, at 7 a.m. This event will take place at the Eastern Berks Fire Department, 537 Chestnut Street.
