Boyertown girls soccer denied PAC playoffs

An unbeaten week wasn’t enough for the Boyertown girls soccer team to qualify for the Pioneer Athletic Conference Final Four, set for Tuesday at Owen J. Roberts. Pope John Paul II clinched the final playoff berth with a 2-0 win over Pottsgrove last Thursday, denying the Bears (8-4-1 PAC) a PAC semifinal place for the first time since the league adopted a four-team playoff in 2005.

The Bears will qualify for the District 1-AAAA playoffs. At 10-5-2 overall, they were ranked No. 15 entering the week for the 24team playoff.

BOYERTOWN 9, NORRISTOWN 0 >> The Bears used a six-goal advantage during the second half to seal their PAC Liberty Division win over the Eagles.

Kaleigh Gallagher and Elise Rota each scored twice while Sierra Landes had a goal and a pair of assists in the win. Grace Conover, Maggie Kiene, Emma Ellwell and Morgan Kline all registered solo tallies.

BOYERTOWN 0, SPRINGFORD 0 >> The Bears held undefeated Spring-Ford to a scoreless draw. Boyertown’s Ashley Petitjean and Spring-Ford’s Amanda Byrd earned the shutouts.

Field hockey

BOYERTOWN 8, NORRISTOWN 0 >> Tiff Diachynsky had a hand in five of the Bears’ goals during a PAC Liberty Division win over the Eagles.

Diachynsky netted a hat trick and added a pair of assists as Boyertown jumped out to a 3-0 lead by the half. Sydney Fox and Ashley Dierolf each registered a goal and an assist while Hannah Wentzel and Lindsay Flack each scored once. Kaitlyn Berger made two saves in the cage to preserve the shutout.

SPRING-FORD 2, BOYERTOWN 1 >> Shannon Kennedy’s two second-half goals lifted the Rams over the Bears in their PAC matchup on Oct. 11.

Kennedy was assisted on her tallies by Caroline Todd and Lexie Nugent. They staked Spring-Ford to a two-goal lead before Boyertown scored at the 3:02 mark, Todd Diadhyhrky set up by Ashley Dierolf.

Boys cross country

BOYERTOWN 15, NORRISTOWN 50 >> The Bears swept the first 10 spots in the finishing order to score the runaway PAC victory over the Eagles.

Josh Endy led the way with a winning 16:49 run, followed by teammates Justin Smyth (16:51), Dominic DeRafelo (16:54) and Kollin Miller (16:59). Norristown’s first finisher was Moises Cstro Vera, who came in 11th.

Girls cross country

BOYERTOWN 15, NORRISTOWN 50 >> Like their male counterpar­ts, the Bear girls took the first 10 finishing spots on the way to a PAC victory over the Eagles.

Grace DeMenno, Gillian Kasitz and Maddy Hunsburger were all clocked crossing the finish line first in 20:21. Paige Akins was a close fourth in 20;22, with Valaria Sanchez-Vargas Norristown’s leader in 11th place.
