The Boyertown Community Library is in the process of changing locations with plans to move into the former National Penn Bank office building at 24 North Reading Avenue.

The smaller property, which is across the street from the bank’s former headquarters, was sold to them by BB&T Bank, who received it when they had bought out National Penn Bank.

“We knew the building was going to be available, and we did what we had to do to make our bids to the people who owned the building,” said Russ Phillips, the President of the Boyertown Library Board of Trustees.

Although there has not yet been a date for which the project will be completed, the library plans to then sell its current office on East Philadelphia Avenue once it moves into the new one.

The banking building is over double the size of the current library at approximately 10,000 square feet of space, in addition to 30 parking spaces.

While the moving process is still in the planning phase, there needs to be many renovations done to the property until the former banking building can become a library.

“We will be working with an architect to design the inside of the building,” said Phillips, “and try to expand the children’s’ library and add more space for meetings.”

There has not yet been a date for which the project will be com-

pleted.

It is planned that the new building will equip the library with bigger meeting rooms, a modern floor plan, new updated computer work areas, and even additional space for more books.

“There’s a lot of planning that has to go into this,” said Phillips, “but the space is there.”

The library made this announcement public via social media on Thursday, Oct. 13. A new Facebook page for the move will be created soon to keep the community updated on its progress.
