Junior Woman’s Club masters the art of giving
Upcoming meeting set for Monday, Nov. 14
It would be a challenge to find a group as dedicated to our local community as those women of the Boyertown Junior Woman’s Club. BJWC is a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, one of the world’s largest and oldest nonpartisan, nondenominational women’s volunteer service organizations. Currently the club has 26 members who not only give their time but also their talents for the betterment of Boyertown and the surrounding area.
Each September BJWC gathers for their welcome back meeting. The club year runs from September through May. September is not only a time to look ahead but also to reflect back on the previous club year. During the summer BJWC was able to make a number of donations thanks to the funds they raised during the previous club year. A total of $3,000 was given in community donations.
Notable donations include a $1,000 donation to the Boyertown Community Library to help support their programs. A $200 donation was made to the Historical Society of Boyertown for their building and educational programs. Another donation in the amount of $500 was accepted by Nathan Guest of Colebrookdale Railroad. These funds will go to help with children’s programs and allow those who are not able to afford the programs, the chance to participate.
Yet another donation in the amount of $400 was made to David Boyer of “The Growing Center”. The center is a horticultural therapy center with a mobile therapy program. The mobile therapy program visits various nursing homes and rehab centers and uses live plants and horticultural activities to improve a person’s mental, physical and spiritual aspects of life.
BJWC also supported “Save the Town Clock” with a donation of $200 to help preserve a piece of Boyertown history. Finally, two $1,000 scholarships were awarded to graduating Boyertown high school seniors Jordan Shustack and Jaime Wagner to support their continuing education.
“We could not be more proud of the contributions we made this past club year,” said Anita Zuber, Boyertown Junior Woman’s Club president. “As members of the Boyertown community, we want the town we live in to thrive and we work hard to make these donations possible with various fundraisers. We also give many hours of our personal time to support community events and our own club events, such as Once Upon a Prom. We are always looking for new members to join us. We work hard, but we also have a lot of fun.”
