Bears crush PJP in PAC dual debut

BOYERTOWN 72, POPE JOHN PAUL II 3 >> The Bears opened their Pioneer Athletic Conference dual season on Dec. 19 with a dominant performanc­e against Pope John Paul II behind falls from Matt Wilde, David Campbell, Chris Berry, Jacob Miller, Elijah Jones and Mason Grohoski.

Chris Salvo’s decision at 126 netted the Golden Panthers their lone points.

Boyertown is 7-0 this season and finished fifth at the King of the Mountain tournament over the weekend.

Boys Basketball

PERKIOMEN VALLEY 72, BOYERTOWN 41 >> The Vikings were lethal from long range in hitting 10 3-pointers, including five from Justin Jaworski, who scored a gamehigh 21 points, on Dec. 20.

Tyler Stretchay hit three treys in his 13-point night for PV, which built a 41-13 lead at halftime. Sean Owens added 11 for PV.

Jerry Kapp’s 13 points were best for the Bears.

Boys Swimming

BOYERTOWN 114, NORRISTOWN 40 >> The Bears nearly swept through every event in route to a PAC win over the Eagles.

Patrick Lance and Ivan Escott respective­ly anchored and led-off the 200 medley relay (1:59.05) and the 200 free relay (1:49.65) while Owen Miller captured a pair of individual firsts in the 200 IM (2:27.90) and the 100 fly (1:03.81). Weston Brousseau posted a 248 in the diving portion for Norristown.

Girls Swimming

BOYERTOWN 125, NORRISTOWN 33 >> Cara Megill anchored both first-place relays as the Bears breezed past the Eagles in a PAC meet.

The Bears nearly swept through every event, posting firsts in all but the 100 breast (Norristown’s Victoria Brousseau at 1:35.20). Along with Megill, Teresa Draves and Gracie McKee were both part of the 200 medley relay (2:13.61) and the 200 free relay (2:00.17).
