Read­ing Sym­phony cel­e­brates Mozart’s birth­day on Jan. 14

The Read­ing Sym­phony Orchestra, led by Mae­stro An­drew Con­stan­tine, cel­e­brates Mozart’s birth­day month on Satur­day, Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the San­tander Per­form­ing Arts Cen­ter.

RSO prin­ci­pal flutist Yevgeny Fa­niuk is spot­lighted in Mozart’s three move­ment Flute Con­certo No. 1 in G ma­jor, writ­ten in 1778. Yevgeny de­scribes the piece as “melod­i­cally mem­o­rable and vir­tu­osi­cally de­mand­ing of any soloist.” Also on the pro­gram is Tchaikovsky’s Suite No. 4 in G ma­jor, Op. 61, “Mozartiana,” an ar­range­ment of four of Mozart’s works; and Mozart’s Sym­phony No. 35, “Haffner.”

Yevgeny also gives a mas­ter­class for se­lect area mu­sic stu­dents on Satur­day, Jan­uary 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the pub­lic, with a sug­gested do­na­tion of $5 for adults.

Ad­di­tional RSO per­for­mances in the 2016-17 sea­son in­clude An Evening of Beethoven on March 4 with pi­anist Fabio Bi­dini, vi­o­lin­ist Sab­rina Höpcker, and cel­list An­drew Shul­man; and The World of Shake­speare on April 29; as well as Pops per­for­mances -- Hot Latin Nights! with the Mambo Kings on Feb. 11. The RSO presents The Mes­siah on April 2 at Saints Con­stan­tine and He­len Greek Ortho­dox Church fea­tur­ing lo­cal com­mu­nity mem­bers as soloists.

About Yevgeny Fa­niuk

Yevgeny Fa­niuk en­joys a rich and a ver­sa­tile ca­reer as an or­ches­tral and cham­ber mu­si­cian in the New York City metropoli­tan area. A fre­quent guest mem­ber with the Metropoli­tan Opera Orchestra and the New York City Bal­let, he plays prin­ci­pal flute with the Read­ing Sym­phony Orchestra and per­forms reg­u­larly with the Al­bany Sym­phony and Prince­ton Sym­phony Orchestra. He is also cur­rently a prin­ci­pal flutist with the Glim­mer­glass Fes­ti­val Orchestra in Coop­er­stown, New York. Yevgeny has also per­formed as a sub­sti­tute mu­si­cian with the Is­rael Phil­har­monic and the Rus­sian Na­tional Or­ches­tras.

Yevgeny has been a prize win­ner of nu­mer­ous com­pe­ti­tions, in­clud­ing the Flute Talk Com­pe­ti­tion and the New York Flute Club Com­pe­ti­tion in the United States. In Is­rael, Yevgeny re­ceived the first prize at the 1st Haifa In­ter­na­tional Flute Com­pe­ti­tion, won the pres­ti­gious Ru­bin Academy of Mu­sic Com­pe­ti­tion in Tel Aviv, and re­ceived a top prize in the Jerusalem Young Artist Com­pe­ti­tions, as well as an hon­or­able men­tion at the Paul Ben Haim Is­raeli Mu­sic Com­pe­ti­tion..
