EARL TWP. >> After a hiker alerted police on New Year’s Day that there was an overturned car in Trout Run Reservoir, state police discovered the vehicle was stolen about 20 years ago.

No one was inside the vehicle, which police said appears to have been in the reservoir for several years.

The car was found upsidedown, which may have become visible as water levels in the reservoir were lower than usual, police said. Several dive teams assisted in searching the vehicle and removing it from the water.

According to media reports, the car appeared to have been intentionally sunk.

The investigation is continuing by state police at the Reading barracks.
