Berks County Wine Trail bat­tles win­ter chill

Now that win­ter is here and the hol­i­days are over, it’s time to find ways to fight of the win­ter blues. If you’re look­ing for an easy and fun way to put win­ter’s icy temps be­hind you, stop by the winer­ies of the Berks County Wine Trail on Satur­day, Jan. 14, and Sun­day, Jan. 15 for an ex­pe­di­ent warm up! At each win­ery along the Berks County Wine Trail, sam­ples of fea­tured Penn­syl­va­nia pro­duced wines will be served up with an ar­ray of cre­ative warm­ers rang­ing from soups, chili, stews, warmed spiced wines and more. This event is free, and no reser­va­tions re­quired. The event is noon to 5 p.m. both days.

Jan­uary is also a great time get out and re­plen­ish one’s wine cel­lar af­ter the hol­i­days, too! Not only will the fea­tured wines dur­ing this event be great to con­sider to bring home by the bot­tle, but this will be a great week­end plan your own self-guided tour to ex­plore each winer­ies’ full wine bar tast­ing menus, too.

Some warm thoughts to think about in an­tic­i­pa­tion of this wine and warm foodie event are wines such as Mer­lot from both Weath­ered Vine­yards win­ery & Stone Barn Cel­lars; Cham­bourcin from Pin­na­cle Ridge Win­ery; or Spiced Ap­ple Wine from Bashore & Stoudt Coun­try Win­ery.

Make a week­end out of it by visit­ing all the winer­ies to taste all that they of­fer; or just day trip it with a visit to just a handy group in a ge­o­graphic sec­tion of the greater Berks County re­gion. Spiced Sweet Potato Soup paired with Blair Vine­yards’ white wine blend of Sau­vi­gnon Blanc, Riesling and Pinto Gris, in a lit­tle warmer called Lovers Leap.

Manatawny Creek Win­ery’s Creamy cau­li­flower soup paired with 2014 Chardon­nay white wine will be sooth­ing the soul on any cold Win­ter af­ter­noon. Light and yet fil­ing and al­ways lovely to dis­cover a wine to en­joy with a steamy bowl of warm soup!

Spoon­fuls of warmth through South­west Turkey Chili paired with Kog Hill Win­ery’s sig­na­ture Twin Val­ley Red wine. A soft, lightly sweet red that mel­lows out the heat of the chili giv­ing the sen­sa­tion of a warm shawl over one’s shoul­ders.

The fea­tured wine & warm­ers pair­ings are free dur­ing this event, but sam­plings of full tast­ing menus at select winer­ies re­quires a mod­est fee (which is re­fund­able with pur­chase of wine).
