Awards coming in for Mule’s Vallely

BRANDI VALLELY (OLEY VALLEY) >> The Muhlenberg junior picked up two awards and the women’s basketball season isn’t even over. The 5-foot-7 guard was named to the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Team of the Year on Feb. 14 and was named to the CoSIDA Division III Academic AllDistric­t 4 team on Feb.9. She’s a double major (media & communicat­ions and business administra­tion). On the court, she leads the Mule in scoring (13.1), assists (157) and steals (68). The stats got a hit on Feb. 15 in an easy 98-40 victory over Bryn Mawr. She had four points, seven rebounds, four assists and a steal – in just 10 minutes of action.

MADDY MCDONALD (OLEY VALLEY) >> The freshman has seen limited action on the junior-senior dominated Ball State women’s gymnastics team. In a 195.475-194.000 Mid-American Conference victory over Central Michigan on Feb. 12, she finished tied for seventh on vault with a score of 9.775. In her only other appearance she finished 18th on the beam in a non-league meet against Missouri of the Southeast Conference and Illinois of the Big Ten Conference on Jan. 6 in Columbia, Mo. with a score of 8.250. The Cardinals lost both matches.

CODY RICHMOND (BOYERTOWN) >> The Ursinus junior was runner-up at 184 pounds at the Centennial Conference wrestling championsh­ips on Feb. 11 in Hoboken, N.J. Richmond entered the tourney as the No. 3 seed. He posted a 9-2 decision to earn a bid into the semifinals. He faced secondseed Danny Moore of Stevens Tech and defeated him 4-3 with an escape in the second sudden death period. No. 1 seed Patrick Rooney of the Merchant Marine Academy ended Richmond’s run with an 11-6 victory in the title bout.

MADISON WAGNER (OLEY VALLEY) >> The freshman had a big meet to help Cedar Crest finish second in the North Eastern Athletic Conference women’s swim championsh­ips Feb. 10-12 in Cazenovia, N.Y. Wagner finished second in the 100 IM(1:07.08) and second in the 100 butterfly (1:06.20) and third in the 200 freestyle (2:14.10). And, she swam legs on four winning relays – the 200 (1:57.79) and 400 medley (4:24.96) and the 200 (school record 1:45.52) and 400 freestyle (3:52.43). The Falcons scored 463 points LUCAS MILLER (BOYERTOWN) >> The 25th-ranked Kutztown wrestling team pulled out a come-from-behind 24-16 victory over East Stroudsbur­g on Feb. 14 and Miller had a key sudden-victory effort in his 133-pound match. His match was tied 6-6 at the end of regulation and he won the match when his opponent was called for stalling in overtime. He’s 13-7 overall and 11-3 in dual matches for the Golden Bears who are 12-5 overall and 4-3 in the PSAC in dual matches.
