Adult center honors memory of benefactor

- — Submitted by Brian Parkes

The TriCounty Active Adult Center (formerly the Pottstown Area Seniors’ Center) announced the name of its new building at a gala on March 5. Nearly 100 people turned out for the fourth annual Golden Apple Gala at Brookside Country Club in Pottstown. Peggy Whittaker was the honoree, and it was announced that the center’s new building will forever be named The Dr. Richard P. Whittaker Building, in memory of Whittaker’s late husband.

Attendees danced the night away to the sounds of Betsy Chapman on harp during the cocktail hour, followed by the 18-piece West Chester Swing Kings. Rounding out the evening were two ballroom dancing demonstrations, one by award-winning couple Bill and Patti Underwood, and another by Rick and Phyllis Brown, who have been taking lessons from the Underwoods for a year. The gala raised more than $10,000 for the campaign to complete the renovations of their building on Moser Road.
