Boyertown softball storms back to beat Phoenixvil­le

The Boyertown softball team came back from a 3-2 deficit with nine runs in the bottom half of the fifth and sixth innings on Monday, April 24 to come away with an 11-3 Pioneer Athletic Conference win over Phoenixvil­le in cross-divisional action.

Taylor Garcia swung the hot bat for the Bears, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs in the victory. Alyssa Acker added two RBIs, along with Kody Streeter, who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Sarah Reinert added a 2-for-2 effort with three runs scored.

Jess Anthony went 3-for-3 from the dish for the Phantoms, who couldn’t overcome a five-error performanc­e.

Baseball

BOYERTOWN 2, METHACTON 0 >> Mike Xanthopoul­os threw a twohitter and the Bears scored their runs in the sixth inning to secure a PAC Liberty Division victory over the Warriors on Wednesday, April 26.

Xanthopoul­os yielded just one walk while fanning nine in his pitching duel with Ben Christian (six hits, one earned run, two walks, eight strikeouts). Mitchell Peers drove in one of Boyertown’s runs, and Quinn Mason and Anthony Rota each went 2-for-3 as the game’s lone players to collect multiple hits. PHOENIXVIL­LE 3, BOYERTOWN 2 >> Kevin Cushing hit an RBI double in the bottom of the third inning to break a 2-2 tie as the Phantoms put the clamps down on a PAC win over the Bears on Monday, April 24.

Cushing finished 2-for-3 with three RBI while Nick Opalkowski and Luke LeBeau each finished with a hit and a run scored. Zach Masalski picked up the win, giving way to two runs on three hits in five innings. Anthony Rota and Noah Kurtz posted RBI for Boyertown.

Girls lacrosse

BOYERTOWN 13, VILLA MARIA 10 >> Maddy Siejk paced the Bears with three goals and two assists during a win over Villa Maria at the Katie Samson Festival on Saturday, April 29.

Sydney Fox added a hat trick of her own as Boyertown used a 5-2 advantage during the second half. Ashley Dierolf scored twice to go along with two assists while Hailey Heimbach scored twice and Hannah Wentzel had three assists. PERKIOMEN VALLEY 14, BOYERTOWN 13 >> Paige Tyson netted a game-high five goals to lead the Vikings past the Bears in their PAC Liberty Division contest on Friday, April 28.

Anna Koniencki and Sydney Marasco came up with hat tricks to help PV rally from a 10-7 halftime deficit. Boyertown’s Sydney Fox shared game scoring honors with Tyson with five goals of her own. BOYERTOWN 16, METHACTON 15 >> Sydney Fox scored a team-high seven goals as the Bears edged out the Warriors in Liberty Division play on Wednesday, April 26.

Maddy Siejk added three goals and two assists with Hailey Heimbach, Ashley Dierolf, Hannah Mitchell, Kylie Webb, Haydn Hallman and Amanda Diachynsky each figuring in with one goal.

Methacton was led by seven goals from Alana Cardaci. Jackie Cerchio finished with three goals and five assists with Addy Borkowski adding two goals and two assists. OWEN J. ROBERTS 22, BOYERTOWN

9>> Frankie Carroll and Anna Dempsey headed a trio of hotscoring Wildcats in their PAC Liberty Division game with the Bears on Tuesday, April 25.

Carroll and Dempsey’s gamehigh six tallies put them ahead of teammate Eloise Gebert, who had four. Maddy Siejk, Sydney Fox and Hailey Heimbach were Boyertown’s offensive leaders with two apiece. BOYERTOWN 15, BISHOP SHANAHAN

8>> Sydney Fox struck for seven goals to lead the Bears to a nonconfere­nce win over the Eagles on Monday, April 24.

Hailey Heimbach scored three times while Amanda Diachynsky scored twice. Hannah Wentzel finished with a goal and a pair of assists while Sarah Didget came up with eight saves in goal.

Boys lacrosse

SPRING-FORD 12, BOYERTOWN 1 >> The Rams were all over the Bears en route to a PAC win on Monday, April 24.

Jarrod Marenger led the charge with two goals and five assists while Tate Pijanowski netted a hat trick in the win. Ryan Rosenblum, Danny Cassidy and Drew Giovinco each had a goal and an assist while Kyle Pettine finished with 12 stops in goal. Skylar Wallace scored Boyertown’s lone goal during the second quarter.

Boys track

SPRING-FORD 91, BOYERTOWN 59 >> Stone Scarcelle was a three-event (400, 200, long jump) winner for the Rams in Monday’s PAC meet with the Bears.

For Boyertown, Evan Gianetti placed first in the discus and javelin.

Girls track

SPRING-FORD 103, BOYERTOWN 47 >> Rebecca Hemmingway’s threewin showing (100, 200, long jump) was the highlight for the Bears in Monday’s PAC loss to the Rams.
