Boyertown lacrosse teams fall in 1st round of districts

Girls Lacrosse

DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 14, BOYERTOWN 12>> The Cougars rallied for 11 second-half goals to down the Bears in the opening round of the District One Class AAA action.

Maddie Siejk notched a hat trick, Hannah Mitchell had two goals and two assists while Hannah Wentzel scored twice and added an assist for No. 16 Boyertown, which led 7-3 after the first half. Kasey Fox came up with six saves. Livi Lawton paced No. 17 DTE with five goals while Emily Wurzel scored three times.

Boys lacrosse

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 7, BOYERTOWN 6 >> The Bucks jumped out to a 3-0 lead by the half and rode it to a win over the Bears in the opening round of the District One Class AAA playoffs.

Softball

BOYERTOWN 4, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 1>> The Bears took the lead late in the game in a non-league victory over CB South on May 17. The game was tied at one with Boyertown batting in the bottom of the fifth when Taylor Garcia singled off of Kylie Kenney, driving in two runs.

Allison Melahn earned the win for Boyertown. She threw seven innings, allowing one run, two hits, striking out five, and walking one. Kenney took the loss for CB South. She pitched six innings, surrenderi­ng four runs, nine hits, striking out four, and walking one.

Boyertown had nine hits in the game with Garcia and Veronica Maryanski each finishing with two hits.

Sr. Legion Baseball

BEARS SWEEP >> Trevor Waldman, Sean Sotterby, Justin Wieand, and Nolan Kline combined on a one-hitter as the Bears opened their 2017 season with a 5-1 win over Doylestown. Boyertown picked up a win in the second game, 4-1.

Kline capped a four-run first inning with a two-run single for the Bears in the opener while leadoff hitter Gavin Mourar went 2-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored.

Mike Martin broke a 1-1 tie in the second game with an RBI-single in the bottom of the fifth inning. Martin also stole two bases, as did shortstop Chris Davis. Starting pitcher A.J. Kline picked up the win for the Badgers.
