July 11 “Capture the Moment” Digital Photography: Bring your electronic device (I-pod, Pad, Cell or Smartphone) to the Berks County Heritage Center at 6:30 p.m. and explore the park, learning how to shoot great photos outdoors. The evening will start with a brief slide presentation on what to look for when taking pictures; then professional photographer & instructor, Valerie Hoffman will lead us on an exploratory walk around the grounds of the park capturing great moments in nature. July 15 Keim Homestead National Historic Landmark: Open House and dedication celebration from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission is a $10 per person suggested donation. Trust members and children 12 and under are free. Wine tastings will be limited to visitors 21 and older. Light lunch items and baked goods will be available for purchase. July 15 Clay on Main Ice Cream Social: and Open House on Saturday July 15 at the studio at 313 Main St. in the village of Oley from 1 to 3 p.m.. The social will have activities for all ages. Demonstrations including the pottery wheel, tile making, and sculpture will be going on throughout the day. There will also be hands-on art activities for all ages in the studio. Music will be in the Half Moon Café throughout the day. The artwork of talented local young students is currently on display in the studio gallery. The exhibition “Raising our Voices” is curated by local student Ray Lapinski. Volunteers will be giving tours of the building and studio throughout the day. Attendees will have an opportunity to create and take home whimsical miniature gardens using plants and materials supplied by the studio. Flower crowns will also be created for all who would like one. Student artists from the Lehigh Valley Charter Arts High School will be on hand to create caricatures while you wait. Studio volunteers will be serving complimentary cones or bowls of ice cream to all that attend. Handmade ice cream bowls from the studio will be available for purchase for a small donation. Other pottery items will be available for purchase in the Potter’s Pantry gift gallery.
July 18-20, Register by July 11 Half-Day History Camp: 9a.m. – 12:30 p.m. July 18-20 at Berks County Heritage Center. $30 per child for three days. Treat your kids to an exceptional experience of interactive programs that will open up their knowledge on three different aspects of early life in Berks County. Each day includes a lesson, games, crafts and hands-on activities. For ages 6-12; class limited to 20.. Call 610-374-8839 to register. Register early to reserve your spot. Deadline is July 11. Through Aug. 23 Village Volleyball: in the village of Huff’s Church (across street from Huff’s Union Church building, 540 Conrad Road, Alburtis). Every Wednesday from June 21 through Aug. 23 (weather permitting) from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Relaxed recreational volleyball. Church provides the place, net, ball, cold water (bring your water bottle to fill) and bathrooms. All ages; minimum of 2 persons needed to start a game. If no one shows by 7 p.m., we will assume the evening is cancelled. Public is welcome.
