District names new acting schools chief

The Boyertown Area School District has a new leader — at least temporarily.

The Boyertown Area School Board has unanimously approved David P. Krem as acting superintendent.

Krem, the former superintendent for the Pottstown and Wyomissing school districts, will be the top administrator in Boyertown as a result of the resignation of Superintendent Richard H. Faidley on July 17.

Due to the time line of performing a thorough superintendent search, the district made the decision to utilize the extensive experience of Krem as acting superintendent.

The school board approved the agreement dated July 25 between the Boyertown Area School District and Krem for the term of Aug. 1 and ending no later than June 30, 2018. Krem will be paid $800 per day.

The 9-0 vote took place during the July 25 school board meeting. Assistant Superintendent Robert Scoboria has been handling administrative duties since Faidley’s departure. Neither Faidley or Krem were present at the meeting.

Board President John Landino said Krem was away on vacation with limited phone service, otherwise he would have called in to

participate in the meeting.

“I’m looking forward to the new tomorrow, ” said board member Clay Breece following the approval of Krem as acting superintendent. “We are going to see better times in this district.”

Breece added he was looking forward to working with Krem and was impressed with him during the interview process.

Krem told The Boyertown Area Times on Aug. 2 that as interim superintendent, he will steer the course presented by the board. His main goal is to have everything remain steady for the kids of the district.

Krem served as superintendent of Pottstown School District from 2005 to 2010. From Pottstown, he moved onto serve as superintendent in Wyomissing for two years, until announcing his retirement in 2012.
