YMCA finishes pool project
Thanks to a grant from the Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation, the Boyertown YMCA completed the final phase of a two-year renovation project to improve the Boyertown Community Pool.
Major improvements totaling more than $46,000 included sandblasting the 50-meter pool, replacing the interior seams, acid washing and repainting, all completed earlier this year.
The first phase of the project was completed in 2016 and included replacement of all of the deteriorating coping and aging tile in and around the pool.
“The Foundation is proud to have partnered with the Boyertown YMCA to improve the functionality of its Community Pool,” Foundation President Dave Kraybill said. “We hope residents continue to enjoy the
pool and use it to lead a healthier lifestyle.”
The Boyertown Y agreed to lease and manage the pool from the Borough of Boyertown in 2009. The Y serves thousands of community residents and families who rely on the Boyertown Community Pool as a safe place to swim. “We are fortunate to have (the foundation) as a partner,” said Kim Slonaker, Executive Director, Boyertown YMCA. “Not only do these funds improve the pool infrastructure, they allow the Y to do what we do best, teaching kids and adults the importance of safety around water as well as how to swim.”
More than 100 YMCA Mako Sharks Summer Swim Team members practice and hold their meets at the Boyertown Community pool. Y campers use this pool daily as well as hundreds of local families who want to relax and beat the heat on the hot summer days.
The Boyertown Y relies on funding from partners like the health and wellness foundation to maintain the pool and upkeep to the grounds but the improvement fund is open to anyone.
