Wise, Boyertown boys soccer breeze past Norristown

Boys soccer

BOYERTOWN 5, NORRISTOWN

0» Ben Wise scored twice in the second half as the Bears cruised to a PAC Liberty win on Sept. 15.

Other scorers for Boyertown were Ben Vermeesch and Colin Brisbois (assisted by Jimmy Towers) and Nick Willson. Alex Kovatch and Mason Kurtz combined for three saves.

Jimmy Towers added a goal and an assist as the Bears scored all three goals in the second half to down Pennsbury in non-conference action

Towers, off a feed from Sal Marciante, tied the game at one in the second half before Ryan Foskey found the net off a corner kick coming from the leg of Towers to give the Bears the lead. Nick Willson added an insurance goal. Zachary Kovatch registered seven saves in the win.

Co-ed cross country

Owen J. Roberts’ girls and Boyertown’s boys were the winners of the meet hosted by Pottstown on Sept. 15.

For the girls, Gov. Mifflin finished second followed by Spring-Ford, Boyertown and Upper Perkiomen to round out the top five. On the boys side, Spring-Ford finished second with Owen J. third and Pope John Paul II finishing fifth.

Spring-Ford’s Jacob McKenna had the fastest time for the boys, finishing his two miles in 10:38, while on the girls side it was Gabriella Bamford, also from Spring-Ford, who took home the top finisher honor with a time of 12:35.

Field hockey

SPRING-FORD 3, BOYERTOWN

Kate Crist’s twogoal showing keyed the Rams on their win over the Bears on Sept. 14. Crist scored in each half of the PAC Liberty Division contest — the second assisted by Caroline Todd, who also scored in the second half off a setup by Mac Maloney. Kristen Grebe (six) and Ashley Della Guardia shared time in goal for SF, with Ashley Dierolf accounting for Boyertown’s lone tally in the first half.

Emily Owens scored two goals - including the gamewinner in overtime - while Olivia Hoover figured in all three tallies by the Warriors in their PAC victory over the Bears on Sept. 13.

The Bridgets got it going for the Wildcats as they downed the Bears in league play on Sept. 12.

Bridget Gallagher got it going in the first half with an unassisted goal before Bridget Guinan added an insurance goal in the second half.

Cassie Mickelsava­ge finished with two saves in the win. OJR outshot Boyertown 11-2 and held a 19-3 advantage in corners.

Boyertown’s Hailey Levengood recorded nine saves.

Boys golf

J.T. Spina fired a 1-under 35 to lead the Golden Panthers to a win over the Bears at Hickory Valley on Sept. 14.

Courtney Caiola and Ben Grimm each finished up at 39 while David Antoniuk (40) and Greg Hiriak (42) rounded out the PJP scorecard. John Engle took lowman honors for Boyertown with a 39.

Boyertown’s John Engle scored low-man honors with a twoover 38 but it was the Vikings that came away with the victory in league play at Raven’s Claw Par 36 course on Sept. 12.

Andrew Giorgi finished with a team-best three-over for PV, which also got a 40 from Christian Riehs and a 41 from Andrew Burkhardt.

Girls golf

At Twin Ponds, Boyertown’s Savanna Haas shot the low round with a 2-over 37 but the Whippets won the day. Grace Hickey’s 38 was a team-best for Downingtow­n West on Sept. 12.

Girls tennis

Tori Alexander and Jessica Leach headed the Rams’ sweep of the Bears in their PAC match on Sept. 14.

Alexander and Leach were winners at first and second singles, respective­ly, by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Boyertown’s best individual showing came at third singles, where Abbey Green extended her first set with Pranavi Chamarti to a tiebreaker.

Girls volleyball

Emma Eglinton headed the Warriors’ statistica­l stars in their sweep of the Bears on Sept. 13.

Methacton won by set scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-12. Eglinton had 28 assists, one kill, 10 digs and three blocks. Methacton also got contributi­ons from Andrea Castaneda (10 kills, five digs, two blocks), Carli Ginther (16 digs, three aces), Maggie Welsh (five kills, three blocks, one dig), Hannah O’Donnell (two aces, four assists, eight digs), Nicole Cooper (three aces, six digs), Sydney Zerbe (eight kills) and Lauren Stanley (four digs).
